At least one of the baby bald eagles at White Rock Lake fell out of its nest amid severe storms Tuesday morning, a city official confirmed.
Brett Johnson, conservation manager for the city of Dallas , said one of the two baby eagles had fallen. The health of the fallen eaglet was unclear as of Tuesday afternoon, he added. Storms whipped around North Texas, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands and spurring a disaster declaration for Dallas County.
“I honestly didn’t see any sign of either one of them in the nest,” Johnson said.
Earlier this month, the city announced that two baby bald eagles had hatched at White Rock Lake.
The bald eagles were first seen in late 2021 nesting near the intersection of East Lake Highlands Drive and North Buckner Boulevard. In February 2022, the bald eagle pair’s first nest fell amid strong winds.
Johnson said the eaglets started to branch about a week ago.
“The catch is the area is currently flooded and there’s a lot of downed timber, so it’s going to be a while before we can get in there,” he said.
