Dallas police Chief Eddie García on Tuesday fired an officer accused of child endangerment, associating with a convicted felon outside of her official police duties and giving inconsistent or misleading statements during an internal investigation, according to an email to police employees obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

Officer Aleia Burley, 30, was also terminated for violating the department’s administrative leave policy, failing to update her contact information in an internal management system and engaging in adverse conduct when she was arrested last year, the email said. Burley said she had no comment when reached by phone Tuesday evening.

“The decision speaks for itself,” García said in a text when asked for comment.

Burley had been detained in November by Carrollton police and placed on leave in connection with a child endangerment charge stemming from an off-duty incident, Dallas police officials said last year. The email to officers Tuesday said she left her children at home alone without adequate supervision.

The status of the criminal case was unclear; it did not appear in Dallas County court records and an attorney for her could not immediately be reached for comment. Police officials also did not immediately specify any details about the allegation she associated with a convicted felon.

Burley had been with the department since May 2021 and was assigned to the South Central Patrol Division.

She can appeal the discipline under civil-service rules.
