Kevin Costner stopped by Fort Worth on Tuesday to shop for cowboy hats and hangout with local military members.

Costner was in North Texas on Tuesday to promote his forthcoming four-part western film series, “Horizon: An American Saga.” The first chapter premieres in movie theaters on June 28, with chapter two coming on Aug. 16.

The 69-year-old actor started his day by receiving a key to the city of Irving, followed by a gaggle of press interviews with local media outlets to talk about his latest movie.

Costner then made his way to the Fort Worth Stockyards, where he visited The Best Hat Store late Tuesday afternoon, the store’s manager confirmed to the Star-Telegram. There he shopped for cowboy hats and chatted with patrons.

Later Tuesday evening, Costner made his way to the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in west Fort Worth for a screening of “Horizon.”

Dozens of local military personnel had the chance to ask Costner questions at the in-base movie theater before the early screening. After Costner waved goodbye, the screening of the three-hour movie began.

“I’m glad to see you, it’s nice to be here,” Costner told the Fort Worth crowd. “It was important to me to be able to share this movie, especially with our military.”

Costner has been wanting to make “Horizon” since the late 1980s, which is described as, “A multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American west.”

The first two chapters premiere this summer, while the third film is currently filming in Utah and the fourth is up next. Costner not only stars in the films, but also wrote, directed and produced the motion pictures.
