2 more CosMc’s locations are set to open in North Texas

By early April, three locations of McDonald's spin-off CosMc's will have opened in North Texas in less than a month. McDonald's new spin-off concept CosMc's is set to open two locations in North Texas, Watauga and Arlington. The Watauga location will open on Denton Highway on April 2, 2024, while the Arlington location is expected to open on April 8. This is part of an ambitious launch for the brand, which announced in December 2023 that North Texas and San Antonio would be pilot markets and that nine locations would open between the two cities by the end of 2024. Unlike McDonald's where burgers and fries are the main focus, CosMc’s offers more than two dozen drinks on the menu and a handful of food options. The first Texas location opened in North Dallas last week. There are also plans to build CosMcs drive-though locations in Allen and Fort Worth.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated CosMc’s is opening in Denton. It is opening along Denton Highway in Watauga.

By April 8, three locations of McDonald’s new spin-off concept CosMc’s will have opened in North Texas in a 21-day span.

Two locations, one in Watauga and one in Arlington, are on the verge of opening. The first Texas location, and only the second in the country, opened in North Dallas last week.

The Watauga CosMc’s will open at 7304 Denton Highway on April 2, 2024, according to a press release from the company. The Arlington location will open at 300 East Abram Street on April 8.

It’s an ambitious launch for a brand that was announced just three months ago. When the first CosMc’s opened in Illinois in December 2023, the company said North Texas and San Antonio would be pilot markets, and that nine locations would open between the two cities by the end of 2024. They’re making quick work of hitting that goal.

At least two other North Texas locations are in the works. According to recent filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, there are plans to build a CosMc’s drive-though in Allen off Stacey Road near the Portillo’s that opened in September 2023, and another in Fort Worth at McPherson Boulevard and Summer Creek Drive. The filings say the ground-up projects could be completed by June 2024.

Unlike McDonald’s, where burgers and fries are the focus, CosMc’s is a beverage-centered concept with more than two dozen drinks on the menu and just a handful of food options. It’s the latest brand to enter the growing drive-through drink market alongside concepts like Dutch Bros, 151 Coffee and Swig.

Some of CosMc’s drinks are coffee based, but much of the menu is made up of teas, lemonades, slushies and other saccharine concoctions infused with caffeine syrups, popping boba and juices. The food leans toward breakfast with some sweets and ice cream in the mix.

The experience at CosMc’s is designed around quick service and minimal human interaction. While drive-though is the focus, the Dallas location does have an interior space that functions more like a waiting room than a dining room. Inside are two double-sided ordering kiosks and nothing else. No chairs. No tables. No art. Just a counter for order pick-up. Fast-casual minimalism, we’ll call it.

McDonald’s, which is headquartered in Chicago, has a history of tapping North Texas as a test market. In 2023, the company piloted a first-of-its-kind restaurant model in White Settlement. Like CosMc’s, the White Settlement restaurant is designed around drive-through and pick-up orders, with kiosks for ordering, a conveyor belt system for quick grab-and-go service, and no dine-in.
