The lawyer representing Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to provide an update on the multivehicle hit-and-run collision involving the NFL player at a news conference Thursday afternoon in Dallas.
The 1:30 p.m. update, led by his attorney State Sen. Royce West, comes one day after Rice announced in a written statement that he met with Dallas police and took “full responsibility” for his part in the six-vehicle crash over the weekend, which injured at least four people and left multiple vehicles damaged, officials said.
The interview was believed to be the first time Rice met with the police department.
“I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident,” Rice wrote in the signed statement, adding he will continue to cooperate with authorities.
Earlier this week, after a statement from West saying Rice was cooperating with local authorities, police officials said they had not conducted any interviews with “potentially involved individuals.”
Dallas police officials confirmed Wednesday that they’d spoken with Rice but said they were continuing the investigation, which would include “interviews with witnesses, victims and others possibly involved.”
Rice’s alleged involvement remains unclear. He has been connected to both vehicles that caused the crash — a Lamborghini Urus he recently rented and a Chevrolet Corvette registered or leased to him.
The News broke the story Sunday that Dallas police were seeking to speak with the former Richland High School and SMU star in connection with the six-vehicle collision at about 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway.
Kristin Lowman, a Dallas police spokeswoman, has said a driver in a Corvette and a driver in a Lamborghini were speeding in the far left lane, near University Boulevard, when both drivers lost control. The Lamborghini traveled onto the shoulder and “hit the center median wall, causing a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles.”
Footage obtained by The News shows the Urus and Corvette attempting to pass cars in the left lane before slamming into a white sedan and colliding with multiple vehicles across several lanes of traffic.
The occupants of the Lamborghini and the Corvette left the crash site without stopping to see if anyone needed medical attention or providing any of their information, Lowman said.
At least three of the victims of the crash have retained legal counsel, lawyers have said.
